My client's response to our game pitch was to completely try to reinvent the game.
Needless to say we haven't talked to him for a week and have carried on making what we "pitched".

I think its a sweeping statement to say that the client is always wrong and we all have experiences with awkward clients.
I think that its a guiding process, its about fitting their ideas into the design so they work, they can communicate and they fit the audience's expectations.
However, its a delicate process that can't be entered into by sweeping statements (the client is always wrong) sometimes you have to bite the bullet and give them what they want, however, other times you need to be firm and guide them through the reasons your design looks the way it does.
Even taking their requests and simplifying them or toning them down (such as the glows) will give you a happy medium and hopefully, work you can be proud of.
Oh and check out the book, its good. but dont buy it without the dvd.

Very good guesswork.
The first thing the client showed me was 2advanced, one of their past sites. The glow text on the contact page was their request. However, I know many of you think the client is always wrong but it's about been empathic and understanding that everyone has their unique likes and dislikes.
I might look into that book, thanks.

At least. Saw that book in college and loved it, went to buy it on Amazon and it was about €70, when I got it it didnt have the dvd. Whats the point?
ended up buying it in magma for £20 on special. That was a bit more like it!
Havent seen many motion graphics books of the same quality, even the 'motion blur' one by one dot zero wasn't as good.

and yeah, anamorph still looks fresh. whats it been now, five years?
- ian0
Ah tank. That anamorph vid is still good. Got that on the anime 72dpi book ages ago. Gotta go dig it out and take a look again.

Its very advanced.
How advanced you ask?
2advanced!
Sorry, had to get that outta me system. The sites very OTT, if it were me Id get rid of some of the glows around the items, specifically the logo up top, I feel its interfering with the logo. And on the contact details, its just overkill.
Then because its flash and you can pretty much embed any font you want Id go with one pixel font for the menu and a different font for the text. At the mo, although you are going for legibility the font just doesn't sit right with the look of the rest of the site.
Thems my two cents. Best of luck with the rest of it!

I kinda guessed already that the client had requested it be 2Advanced.

Thanks for all your comments. I always use simple plain fonts as the have a kind of reliability about them.
As for the site been cyberdyne' this is mainly due to clients demands to make the site look technical and appeal to their target demographic of mostly boys between 14- 25. In fact, the intro does extend the load time and I wouldn't have gone with it. But it's a about balancing my design ideas with what the client likes.

what the fuck man, i never understand why some people still stick with verdana/tahoma even when designing a full flash site. you do realize there is a world of better typography out there at your fingertips?
it's like using a canon 1D camera with a fucking 18-55mm kit lens.

loading took too long..

"wish..transitions would.. just hurry up... oxygen running low.. why ... why can't i click on ... why do i have to click view? so much distracting.. can't focus *gasp* need whitespace - limbs getting cold, speech slurring.. overrun by techies.. i.. i can't hold on much longer.. oh my god... shrimp? *clik*"

A tip with scroll bars:
A nice feature is clicking on the track and snapping the bar to your mouse and updating the scroll bar's position when the mousewheel scrolls the text. With all those flashy fades you should at least add that extra level of comfort of use. Just try it with the scroll bar to the right of this copy to see what I mean --->
The difference in brightness to a selected image number in the gallery is almost undetectable - perhaps a box behind the number might be clearer?
The interface should certainly click when you press on it but roll-over noises are a bit annoying - especially high pitched ones.
Otherwise it seems fairly slick.

Please review and critique my latest flash site:
http://www.tristargames.com
It's fully made in flash 8 for a game tournament business and uses XML to fully control the content. Some elements of which have now been changed by the client (i.e. most images). Thanks in advance.
