I'm not a freelancer, but I'm curious if this is accurate for anyone?
- madirish0
wow, using just from-the-hip numbers, that thing is pretty damn accurate, IMO.
- D_Dot0
cool, thanks.

How is it not accurate when you're filling in all the figures? LOL. That calculator is ridiculous.
Whoever can't subtract their spendings from their income and divide it by the hour without a website tool shouldn't be doing business in the first place.

If it could tell me how much to charge per project as opposed to hourly then we'd have something.
- cram0
looked okay to me... i filled it out and came really close to what i charge and what works. cool.
- canuck0
hmm that's odd my hourly rate should be $5000.
- knars0
hourly rate: $560.97
i guess its time for a drink

i'm afraid jox is right.
i shouldn't be thinking about making business.
- Jaline0
You ideal hourly rate is: $8.18
HAHAHAHAHAAH
So awesome.
- Jaline0
^ P.S. that's mainly because I live at home (that's right, with my parents), and have a great-paying job. I suspect once I'm on my own it'll be very different.

wow i enetered all the correct info and the hourly price and the hour rate was about 60-70% lower then i actually charge... WTF
- neue75_bold0
huh..
it just told me I was a tool and shouldn't be in this business...
and my waist size?

(May 25 07, 09:26)agreed 100%.
all i said was based on round numbers, the thing's logic worked out pretty accurate. clearly this is outside of any intuition of skill in running a business.... things as such cannot be broken down by on online calculator.

(May 25 07, 09:26)You're right, but it's still fun.

I think some of you are being a bit over critical about the use of the tool and I think the rest of you don't have a clue as to what your real expenses are to get those numbers.
I'm doing very well with my hourly rate but I decided to take 20 minutes and really add things up this week. The tool is VERY good and with me putting in a large profit margin the rate it put our was about $15 more an hour than I actually charge.
If you're living with mom or you don't know how much you travel in a given year of course the answer is going to be wrong... but then again like mentioned, if you are in that boat you probably shouldn't be running a business.

(May 26 07, 07:40)I have no doubt that I only need like $8 an hour to survive right now, since I live at home. I have a full-time job and go to school, which means that I have enough to pay for school and also for fun stuff as well as investments.
I don't run a business, obviously.
- oldelpaso0
apparently i need to charge people 117$ an hour [to break even]...
either that or stop hemmoraging money...
...one of the two...
- myobie0
i gotta raise my rates
it's a good thing i have a dual income house
