Can't believe Im about to say this but...
Both have their pros and cons. Personally I prefer InDesign cos its just waayy more intuitive and occasionally I have to work in quark and it takes me twice as long to do stuff.
But quark has its good sides, just can't think what they are at the mo...

Well it depends. For us designers, there are tons of cool features, however, it is a bit of a sluggish app. Transparency, open type support (i believe Qrk now has the same) and a much more designer friendly interface.
Quark however, is very reliable for outputting of files. But Quark seems to want to contiinually add features that no one will use. Like the web layout side of it. Does anyone here even use that? Extra weight added when they should have just improved Quark for what it is. A solid page layout app.

People still use Quark?
... I guess since the guy talking was older, he is a creature of habit..It took me two years, but I finally got the college where I teach to stop teaching Quark last year, as the students were half and half..
Plus, InDesign is in the CS pack, so you already have it.

Quark seems so illogical to me, now that I've used InDesign for a few years.
The simplest things in InDesign are hard/slow to achieve in Quark IMO.
Even stuff like resizing pictures, rotating, editing text, pasting text etc are so backwardly done in Quark it fucking bites.
Unfortunately I have to use both working here – the old tart who I work with uses Quark and refuses to learn InDesign.
I can use both, when I have the choice for a new project, I choose InDesign EVERY TIME.

quark reminds me of "Barf" from space balls, nasty and unappealing. quark needs to be burn baby burn

anyone that tells you quark is better is just afraid to learn something new...
fucking hacks.

No contest.
Quark used to be the only option, thus the people some people claim its great – I'm with Barb on this, its just cause they dont want to learn something better.
I've worked with both – and quark is a long way from being a good program.
And the only reason Quark updated was because they had Adobe creeping in. If they hadn't come, Quark could care less.

One thing that REALLY annoys me about InDesign is you cannot rotate a box by hovering the cursor by the corner (waiting for it to turn to arrows). You have to select the rotate tool.
REALLY ANNOYS ME as illy does it
- barbtastic0
dancer, hit E on yr keyboard instead of moving yr mouse over to select the tool, then hit V when yr done...
you can scale + rotate much faster that way
- epete220
if you do apple T to do the shortcut for transform you can then rotate, i think im right, im right right?

YEah..... but you know what I mean right. Why can't InD do what illy do.
I don't want to do theose extra pushes....
ok!!
- barbtastic0
i agree... i wish illustrator and indesign shared all the same shortcuts
- epete220
my dream is to have illustrator and indesign in the same program, i know its not really the same but illustrator is so fun and eas to use
- barbtastic0
epete, funny cause i was just saying the same thing yesterday :D
