has anyone ever heard of this, my friend is trying to find out. Basically the printer told her to make a 2400dpi PSD and compress it to a 300dpi PDF that they are going to print, I dont know much about printing anyone else though?

its just the way printers make printing plates for their presses.
in the past printers first made film, then transfered the art to the plate. but now they skip the film and thats why it is called direct to plate

well like the 2400dpi PSD to 300dpi PDF is necessary?

that dpi thing sounds a bit retarded.

no, its not. but the printer is being smart and making sure he receives actual hi-res art.

they probably prefer that file size/format to save time + space

sneaky bastard, thanks as always!

2400dpi is never necessary. printers work off of 300dpi.
they just want you to save them the step of resampling the image.
