exactly dobs...
and it is still amazing to me that no one will invest the resources to do this via an XML stream (whereby they could take it online very cleanly). but then again, we are talking about old-monster media houses that think the web is the evil out ot get them...

Bloody Hell.

Every printer I've ever used has InDesign, and every publication I've prepared ads for uses pdfs exported directly from InDesign, except for Conde Nast, which uses some antiquated tiff format

People still do print?

People still design?

Quark is barely breathing. I used to teach it at a local art school. InDesign has finally taken the reigns.

You will find clients using Quark still. the industry is certainly moving toward/accepting InDesign – which is a blessing.

it is very much still breathing in newsprint and large-scale mags.....
unfortunately.

------------------------------If I remember right, Indesign was getting more used when I left the industry. I am only asking because I have to learn one of them, and it might as well be the one mostly use.

I use Indesign mainly however some printers we use still only accept quark files. Which is a pain in the anus.
I think each studio has their preference but with Indesign & Illy & Photoshop all being bundled for less than the price of a quark upgrade, most studios will go the Indesign route me thinks. Learn Indesign but keep up to speed on quark too. you can never tell...

Most of the printers I've used in the last 2 years accept InDesign.

Learn InDesign. If a printer wants your business enough and they don't have it, they'll buy it...

Learn InDesign. Its palette system and functions are aligned with Illustrator and Photoshop, which if you use currently make it easy to pick-up InDesign.
As for printers, I haven't found a printer in the US or Italy in the past 3 years or so that won't accept InDesign. they are usually tearing the files out anyways.

The reason why many newspapers/magazines still use quark is that lots of content comes out of databases and is dynamically flowed into documents. I think this is one of the few reasons why anyone still uses that dinosaur.

lucky you - missed the paint drips.
