(May 15 07, 08:52)how do you like it?
my wife and i are really interested in buying/getting one.
i had a rat terrier when i was a kid and i friggin loved that dog. the best dog i ever had.

radar that's an awesome dog.
my sister and her husband have a boxer. great dog. i'd love one of those but out place is a little small for a boxer. :/

kona - i highly suggest you read up on JR's before getting one. They can be a handful. We had one as a family dog and he was (is... i just don't live home anymore) a wonderful dog BUT i think alot of that had to do with the fact that he had TONS of one on one when he was a puppy. I've heard nightmare stories though. Definitely do your research.

Yeah *puts bag over Henry's head* if I had to do it all over again I'd get another doberman. Terriers are a bitch to train, stubborn lil' gits.

x2 what grunttt said. i know about 5 of them. they are all bad dogs, 3 of them have been put down for being such.

jack russels WILL DESTROY anything you care about if they feel neglected
fuck the sneakers you wear everyday, they will dig through boxes upon boxes ignoring nice shoes to find those expensive italian dress shoes you only get out on special occasions and leave them in pieces in a pile on top of the remains of the latest thing you had been working on be it a puzzle or a model or a light board of your clients latest layout comps at the first sign they think you are ignoring them more than necessary.
fucking bastard will be your best friend and greet you with a smile when you walk in the door too.
so weigh the emotional roller coaster you're prepared to endure if you both work away from home a lot

no shit?!?
i remember we put a lot of time into training our rat terrier and it was a really good dog, but it never liked other dogs and would sometimes nip you on the heels when you were walking away.
that dog was fun as hell though. hmm... i may have to think more on this.
thanks for the info guys!

all terriers are stubborn and hard to train. my parents had a (pukes a little in mouth) yorkie who was a vindictive urinator. would do it right in front of you while staring you right in the eye. little bastard.
they need lots and lots of toys and guidance, not unlike basenjis.

It's true. Henry (bull terrier) has to be kept in a dog crate while I'm out of the house because he disemboweled my couch and ate my stairs one happy afternoon.
He's sweet, but you can't trust him as far as you can throw him, and that's about 15 feet.
I'm kidding. Sort of. :)
- madirish0
lol- yeah yorkie's are not-so-hot as well.
terriers by breed are 'killers'- this referrs what they were bread to to for centuries. researching a pedigree's history learns you much on what their lowest common denominator will shake out to when things get tough.
i personally am not fond of terriers, but this is only due to direct experience with them.

i have a wrot/dalmation/black lab mix. and he rules
- k0na_an0k0
haha... yeah my rat terrier killed a bunch of... well... rats, a squirrel once, a few birds (it was lightning fast and actually could sprint to a bird and jump and catch it).
thing was really a great dog though. damn i miss her. :/
she'd sleep next to me at night and would follow me wherever i went. haha... we used to have a pool and she'd lay all day with me on the floating lounge chair we had in the pool. haha.

I've got a Wheaton Terrier. I didn't really want a dog at all, but my mom thought it would be a "great surprise" to get this for my son for his 5th b-day... let's say I was less than thrilled...

(May 15 07, 13:46)yeah and territory/property ownership is another quality of terriers that can be a sticky one. remember, it is not just 'your dog' but an animal other people interact with. having malicious, albeit 'defensive' qualities towards other people is a bad thing.
it is a dog. it should have no sense, nor realization of ownership of any property.

my falwell terrier died today..
