a girl I know who runs her own business was just in jury duty last week for 3 days.
they didnt care that she wouldn't be paid by her employer. It really sucks.

But Shellie, Uncle Sam gives you 40 bucks a day for jury duty! That's enough for a few trips to McDonald's and a few coins for the laundromat.
Plus they pay for your parking.
Yeah I hear where you are coming from. I got summoned one time and my boss was pissed, but the judge called and chewed him out after my boss kept demanding I get out of it somehow. It was well worth it!
I would just appeal if you can't survive it financially...maybe they will play nice. Maybe not.

they dont care about that - but if you gets selected they will pay like $50 a day. They have heard every excuse in the book, dont be afraid to speak up and let them know you hate men or that you have a bias against old people.
- shellie0
maybe because it was only 3 days?
Seriously, they can't have me losin' anything over that, right? I pay for all my stuff but I also take care of my parents right now so that's my real beef -- i've got dependants.
This really sucks. They really should match your day rate if you have to do stuff like that.
If I were on trial I'd be pissed if my jury was all pissed off at me because they can't pay their bills. I know you're not supposed to feel that way but how can you not deep deep down. The system is so wackadoodle.

Yeah..tough..you can ignore it, but be cognizant of the potential consequences. Depending on jurisdiction, hey don't neccessarily pursue people who ski pout on Jury Duty, but if you get a zealous junior DA in some mubicipality they make a point sometimes to make examples of people and it's not fun (my brother got dragged through it after ignoring summons for years).
Just go, deal with it. In reality in all probability the most you are going to lose is a day. If you get called for a jury just say something like "I really hate cops" or whatever during the initial interview process...
- mrdobolina0
just bullshit your way out of it.
- shellie0
yeah. I think i've been lucky. I wonder how bad it can be if you just ignore it. But it would be really shitty if I got pulled over one day and I had a warrent or something. I heard they do that now.
Anyhow, I really do hate cops. I don't know ANY black person that doesn't. I see jokes about that on HBO comedy all the time but it's true. It doesn't matter how good or bad you are, if you're black you get this weird feeling in your stomach every time you see a cop car. Kinda like that, "Please don't fuck with me right now."feeling.
Totally not jokin over here.

unfortunately it's considered your civic duty and i don't know whether financial hardship would excuse you.
are your parents ill? if so that's something they do take into consideration.

write a letter documenting the loss of income, potential loss of future income (based on sub-par customer service/missed deadlines during the trial), and the loss of income incurred by the professional organizations depending upon your services.
that worked for me. good luck.

shellie, sputnik has the right idea, I think.

(May 15 07, 08:42)Yup. One is. One stays home a lot to take care of him. So... I work to pick up the slack.
I have a sun burn.

I wonder if a case of Mel Gibson Verbal Diarrhea would work.

I lived in LA for 7 years...got summoned at least 3 times. I never called in, never went...nothing. I never heard anything from them, I guess I was lucky.
- shellie0
there is a chance i could call in the days i need to and never have to physically go in.
If thats the case.. it counts as jury service and you cant get another summons for a period of time.
I wonder if celebrities do jury service. it seems like having them on a jury would be too distracting.

I just got out of it yesterday. Already postponed twice so couldnt do that again.
When I go there I just told them I was a stay at home father and the released me.
