How's it gonna be used?, I agree with the font comments, blackletter etc. But I don't like the whole personal coat of arms thing...sheild, wings, crown etc, unless of course you're a knight (then I apologise) it looks like it would be at home on a baseball cap but pretty little else!

the whole idea behind the logo is due to my surname royle etc will work on the fonts a little more any ideas on any good gothic looking fonts like the logo for 'The Times'

They all look like various compiled bits of heraldic clipart with some text dumped in the middle.
Why is the banner at the bottom there - isn't it supposed to contain text of some sort? If not - what's its point?
In fact - what's the point of any of it? Why on Earth do you think you deserve a crest?
I could just about understand if you'd done some research and attempted to make your own proper one, taking facets of your family's character and applying visual components to reflect them.. but you haven't.
Unless you come from along line of raven-breeding monarch-warriors, of course.

(May 12 07, 08:27)i'm kinda with Nairn on this. It does honestly look like you pulled your logo straight outta Dos Logos and put a letter in the middle. #2 is the only one with solid typography, but you still have a long way to go.
Take Nairn's advice on research of family history. That would make what is a simply cliche, overly styled logo in to a realm that might hold water.
Design deserves substance.
