Anyone been to Napa Valley or south in the Solvang area? I've been to Solvang but going to Napa this weekend. Any good winery recs? Going with the family though, so it won't be an all out drunk fest, but drink with grandma could be a lot of fun...

yeah, i grew up near there and my family used to own a vinyard there, in St. Helena.
great place. which are you visiting, do you know yet? i prefer St. H over Napa, personally, but that is only because it is typically less crowded, and i have freinds there.

Skip Napa and go to Sonoma, the wine is better there.

Not sure where we're headed yet...last time my parents went to Firestone (I think) and liked it. This time the brother is in town and the grandparents so it'll be a drinking with the fam weekend.
Maybe I'm wrong about Napa...we're heading north about 2 hours out of LA, so north of Santa Barbara...is that Napa? I could be wrong...

Napa is north of san francisco.

um, dude.... yer about 6 hours short of being in 'Napa' :)
have fun though- they started producing some nice Pinot there that has been doing quite well recently.

Napa is an hour north of San Francisco. If you're going 2 hours out of LA you're probably heading to San Luis Obispo or San Diego.
Sonoma Square beats Napa any day I think. Unfortunately I'm allergic to both places. My hay fever is unbearable whenever we visit my gf's family up there.

Yeah, definitely wrong about Napa, but it's definitely not San Diego. We're headed north, not south, towards Solvang and SB. What's that area called?

Yep, you're heading to Santa Barbara. If its wine you're lookin for here's some ideas:

Its Los Olivos and Santa Maria. The best wineries around there are in Los Olivos. I am actually going this saturday, check out these:
Bridlewood - excellent, my favorite
