how do you 'disown' someone you really care about... w/out appearing like you're judging them or acting as if 'you're better'?
... i'm at the end of a rope w/someone very close... so close... well - I've known them their whole lives...
... and they're driving me nuts and 'eating away' at my happiness...
... how do I take control w/out hurting this person and maintaining my personal self-respect (I have a hard time speaking up when it's someone I care about who's actions are having an unhappy effect on my life - I often end up getting emotional and speaking far too harshly and dramatically)...
... i'm losing my mind 'thinking' too much about them and their constant selfish actions in regards to 'my life' (costing me time, money and my happiness)... but I'm not up for writing-off a human being (especially... *sigh... a family member).

sorry yes was a rather cold response. just noticed detail at the end of your post; "family member"...
in which case i think honesty is the best policy.

I think you summed it up nicely in your post Pony...why don't you write this person with the same sentiment you just described.

I thought that "disowning" people referred to wills and trusts, and things like that. Like, "the heiress presumptive was disowned by her rich uncle."
I mean, if you "disown" someone, doesn't that only have an effect after you're dead and gone?
