Anyone know if there is a way of speeding up the download speed of bit torrent?
I know you can change your preferences to a high speed - but is that going to make it run slower if you don't set the speed at your "real" capacity - or should i just whack it up to the maximum speeds for up and download?
two and half days so far and not quite at 50%!!!!!! :-(
anyone know how I can speed it up? using a crappy adsl line too!

I still don't get all that stuff on the settings to get a real high download speed. But I can tell you that you should not set it to the max coz it only hurts your download speed.
Try googling more.
And don't forget that some ISPs limit your torrent download speeds. Mine does that. They even got together with a company that would help them control better the download speeds of the clients as it was getting out of control according to them. They even went around town replacing modems saying how the new ones were faster, but it was bullcrap.

I actually just downloaded Azureus like an our ago coz I was sick of the download speeds I get from other software, and went thru the settings to adjust them for faster download speeds and I still get nothing faster than 20Kb.
damn you ISP!

...okay - gonna give azureus a try and see what gives -
and I'll see what other info I can find about the settings for BT

I would like to know this as well since I don't understand how those settings work. But right now my download speed isn't too horrible. Since I live in the suburbs, in front of a forest, there's no way I can have high speed until there are more lines put up near us :(

Don't just-go-changing your client because you're getting slow downloads. Your download rate is ultimately entirely dependent on the number of other people in the cluster, their various upload speeds and which bits of the file you're swapping you and they all each have.
If you've already increased your download rate, you might want to up the number of 'connected peers', 'global connections' and upload/download 'slots'.
If you are considering changing your client, I'd not necessarily just plump for Azareus - I can't see Java improving anythng at all. Personally, I've used uTorrent for a long time, without incident.

YOu can download those porn movies separate as well instead of a batch, ie. you are probably downloading all the jenna scenes for vivid in one batch but that may take ages and is less efficient.

have you opened all the ports on your router that bit torrent uses?

(May 7 07, 06:31)yeah, it's important to punch a hole in the router, only then will you get the fast downloads.
But, you're ISP might be throttling known torrent ports, best to go unique. google for tweaks, you'll find a way

µTorrent has definitely been the cleanest one to use.

What are these “torrents?”

regardless of client, if you have not forwarded inbound connections, you will never see top speeds.
i see speeds up around 5 megabits regularly, which according to my calculations is about 256 times faster than what you're currently seeing.
