Say you make a quotation to design a website for like 14 hours.
First design is not approved, second design is not approved. Where do you stop and say ok this no longer fits in the quotation.
You can't expect from a customer that when they dislike the first design, that they have to pay for making a second. But the other way around the customer can't expect the designer to keep on coming up with new designs for the same price.
Does any of you have some experiences with this kind of situations? Is there a way to cover this up front? Except for making smashing designs that they will allways like.

what you just wrote - tell it to the client. you say when it's enough.

But in advance so you won't risk them bouncing the whole project an you losing all the hours?

yes, next time try to clearly express those details to your client before working on a preoject, preferably on a written contract but for now try to politely work it out with them.

3 inital designs. 2 revisions. any more = more cash.

by the way... good use of the word smashing. it is not used enough in this day and age.
