Anyone using Global Illumination on their renders? Any setting to speed it up? I'm using the default settings- they look great, but take forever to render.

Global Ulimination takes forever! usually i just do the sky with some HDRI but global illimination just takes way too long... no time for that

Where is the HDRI in Cinema? I thought Global Illumination was pretty much the same thing?

you just put a sky and then you make new material turn on only illumination and put a hdri map as the texture... then you use no lights and the hdri you illuminate the scene

Wow, awesome. That's great to know. I have a rough understanding of all of these terms- which makes things kind of confusing. I'm playing with Ambient Occlusion- which, correct me if I'm wrong, is a crude way to get the Global Illumination effect?

no... Ambient Occlusion thats more for like the shadow like in the creases... put a sky and if you want i'll send you some hdri and you can try it

That would be great, thanks for sending!

alright.. so i sent them to you.... now all you have to do is get the sky from the same place where you get the camera or lights and then make the new material and just use lumination and select one of the HDRi and drop it on the sky... no lights

i just browsed through a brand new C4D book today and in version 9 there's something called "cyc" or something that does just that while saving tons of render time??
