How do you shoot good photos of books that have a glossy cover / pages?
( for example, any of the books on http://youworkforthem.com )
It seems no matter how hard I try to diffuse light, they end up with a big splashes of reflected light. Even on matte finished books.
Any tips / tricks / suggestions ?

have you tried a polarizering filter?

hmm ... no,
i'm just using a shitty canon powershot elph.

polarizering filters will remove glare off non-metalic surfaces which are being illumated from light that is 90 degrees to the subject
go to local camera store and grab one. they shouldn't run any more than 40 beans

(May 1 07, 16:04)you won't be able to attached a polarizing lens to that - but you try holding it in front of the lens

never knew what polarizing filters were for... i'll see if i can't get a hold of one.

close off all forms of bright light such as windows and use a bounce flash pointed at the ceiling?

sillys; you buy a piece of non-glare glass and lay overtop the page... then blast with lights.
