Music on Portfolio Site?

I'm thinking of putting some background beats on my new portfolio site but can't decide weather it's a nice touch or just an annoying/distracting gimik?
Anyone have any views on this?

I don't like it, but if you must then definitely have the option to turn it off (in a place that is easy to see).

Always make me laugh a bit to be honest.
Although if your site has a "high concept" thing going on, then that's a different story.

I can't stand it. When it was a novel use of Flash it was ok - it was new and gimicky. But that was 5 years ago.
Now I'm fed up with having someone else's music (usually BoC or some other quiet 'tronica), interfering with the music I am already playing and i'm fed up with hunting for the minute mute/stop buttons.
I'd like the option - "Would you like to download and listen to my music whilst you are browsing my site?".
Music with homemade VERY ambient sound is forgivable and relevant.

Do something new with it. Make it reactive or dynamic in some way. Whatever you do, just make it more considered than a loop playing on.
