I respect and appreciate all forms of art, don't get me wrong.
I just refuse to put some graff artist on the same level as an accomplished painter.

"I respect and appreciate all forms of art..."
"I just refuse to put some graff artist on the same level as an accomplished painter."
Now class, can anyone spell contradiction?

hahaha. I like his work, I think is awesome that his stuff is selling everywhere and I think he'll be around for a while.
Now, version5, you have f-ing mail!!!
- morilla0
no, it's not. I like his stuff, but for f--ks sake it's Stencil Art. It's not the dude is spending 6-12 months on one painting.
Plese dont be that guy.

art is intrinsically worthless
value has nothing to do with quality. value is just one persons subjective claim of worth.
- skt0
you cannot measue worth in how long you spend on it.
though i'm not getting into this argument, with you. it can't be won against classically trained, but unsuccessfull, poor and bitter 'artists'.
but i am only guessing that you are 'that guy'.

It doesn't matter if it takes 5 minutes or 5 years to create a piece of art, he is making huge impacts with his work. I don't even like his work, at all really. I just don't like looking at it, but I think his ideas are incredible, and I think it is a really good sign that this is who people care about, someone that makes art and is passionate about problems in society, etc.
It is no true to life oil painting, from a refined and art educated artist, but I think it is a LOT less boring and a LOT more original and daring.

I respect him and the concepts he puts out there, but his work isn't that appealing to me (visually).
- OSFA0
I wonder what qruise thinks of him...
- morilla0
no, not at all. I love everything. Puppies and cupcakes!!!
It's all subjective, I know that. I guess my point is towards his talent and skill as an artist.
But then again one mans talne and skill can be shitting on the floor at a live installation at MoMa and someone would probably pay cash for that right?

I know what you are all saying, but sometimes I really do think there is a line. Below that line, the art is usually shit, despite what a few people may say.
(this is just a general comment, before I get like 50 responses)
Not Bansky's work (because there is concept behind it and some of it looks okay), but there is some other work other there that is questionable...
Most of it is subjective though, I agree.

it's great for him. and it is whatever the nutter pays for it. free market, free world and that.

when I sold my flat, the guy who bought it loved the fact I had a Banksy or 2 on the building so paid the asking price. Far as I'm concerned, the guys alright by me.

i agree. the concept is so strong - he believes that no moron would buy his shit, yet they do! its an intense reflection on the society of today.
oh fuck off.
