Well it seems like some of the people that complaned to MTV about the flash site hang out at this site.
Some of the comments I've read in this thread for not liking the Flash version are absurd. Sure the Flash site might have been slower and the dimensions a little to small, two things that could have been easily fixed, but that's not why the site was such a breaktrough. That site represented what so many people are so scared to do. Create a heavy content site in all Flash.

------------------------Agreed-but the fact remains that it was in a box, kinda slow-loading, and not as usable as the site that's there now.

(Apr 25 07, 10:23)The current site is a lame attempt to appease the annoying people that don't know any better. They bent over and took it good instead of jsut taking the feedback from the people and improving the Flash site. The Flash site wasn't perfect but it was a step in the right direction.

It's MTV, they listen to whatever people want and give it to them.
The flash site definitely could've been improved upon (it was ridiculously slow and really horrible all-round when accessing content), but this HTML one isn't that much better.

At least now when you access the individual music charts / lists, it doesn't default back to something else after moving to another page.
I can't really explain it to make sense, but I did explore the flash one quite a bit and it definitely needed improvements. I'm sure they could've been done, but they didn't get what people were actually saying.

... at the end of the day - if the site isn't making them any money... they could give 'two shits' as to any of our critiques to either the new or the old.
... lame fact... i know. :)

(Apr 25 07, 14:30)Well it's not a lame fact, money is money but I highly doubt they switched it to HTMl in fear of losing money. Their website probably only makes a fraction of their income.
It's just a shame. When I saw that site I was so impressed that a company that big and popular has the balls to try something like this. Obviously they didn't have the balls to deal with the criticisms. It's unfortunate cause I thought this was going to be the first step to a new attitude towards Flash.

That site sucked major ass and barely worked on anything but IE/PC. The site was about equal to their programming roster.

losing all your advertising money cause people can't get past the front page will make you redesign.
true story.

I don't think its an accident that it looks like a myspace/facebook type design because that's what the yoof of today identify with.
