I have someone that has set up a server for me, but not pointed to it properly as yet.... they've updated the A record... but not working yet, he as told me to add his dns to my PC...
So my question is where do I add this?

are you hosting from your pc? Maybe he meant you need to change DNS records from your registry provider such as godaddy.
try dnsstuff.com forum. You will find more answers there than here.

he probly wants you to add it to your hosts file
did he give you an ip address to point his domain to?
if so, you add that ip into your hosts file under that domain
do a google search for hosts file and your platform
