Hey guys, I'm at odds with a client over typeface selection for something i'm working on at the moment.
I'm currently using Whitney and the client's friends (ugh) think it's a little too "right now and not classy and timeless enough".
Personally, I like the friendly feel and easy legibility of Whitney, but.....
Any ideas for a "classy/timeless" sans serif? Your consideration is appreciated.

benton sans?

Franklin Gothic..Lets see what u got going?

Good pick Rand. A couple of others in the Trade Gothic vein:

http://www.fontshop.com/fonts/do…Classy is such a nebulous term. Do they mean elegant? Then we're barking up the wrong branch of the sans tree.

sans tree = field

What is the nature of the clients' business? Would a humanist similar to Whitney be appropriate, or would a Gothic sans work?
Thesis could be a good alternative to Whitney.

sorry. i should have mentioned:
they're an interior design firm that focuses on corporate work.rand: benton is a great face. pricey, but i can see you get what you pay for.
typo: as usual – top notch picks.
I don't think elegant is what they're looking for. I'm thinking more along the lines of "efficient" if that helps.

If they are interior designers they probably like Helvetica. Have a look at this list:

That's very nice. I'm sorry they aren't seeing it. Perhaps it feels too modern for them? Can you show some of their work?

Great suggestion, Typo.
Thanks so much guys. This one's had me scratching my head - i thought whitney was pretty freakin classy. I mean, It WAS designed specifically for a museum.I forgot all about that fontshop newsletter. I thought it would come in handy when i first got it.

Because their work is so corporate and more on the bland side, they want to have a more "creative" vibe without turning off their stuffy clientele. That's why I felt this would work for them on a couple of fronts.
As far as showing their work: I have a boatload of images at the home office, but they're not very telling.

I like Spiegel. Actually I like almost everything DeGroot does.
