or newstoday?
(actually he didn't say anything about Talk.Origins, he just pointed out your inability to argue against people who actually know science, and instead you act like the cock-of-the-walk on a dezine forum. What's that word? ad hominem?)
- Brookoioioi0
any more bogus partisan groups you want to pretend are arenas of real debate. Why not just go the whole hog and post aig or the discovery institute? You know you want to.
- Brookoioioi0
So this is your idea of debate? Seriously?
75 threads all 'ad hominem' attacks against professor Dawkins' atheism, not one intellegent word to say about his 30+ years of scientific work.
Compelling stuff. You couldn't have posted more obvious propaganda if you tried.
- flagellum0
I argue against people who "actually know science" every day. Why assume this is the only site I frequent? I hardly ever post here. Silly.
I happen to be in the design industry. And there's alot more than "dezine" being discussed here.
- flagellum0
Brookoi: Neither AiG or DI are discussion forums. Really wouldn't have taken you long to figure that out.
Here's an idea: why don't you actually try to present an argument about whatever your position is, instead trying in vain to attack people's character.

yes, 1360 posts in one year and a quarter. Thats like a minimum of 3 posts a day.
hardly EVER mom!

It is awfully cute though that you post a question I raised two years ago about dimorphic sexuality on a one-sided listserv and pretend that that settled some kind of long-standing issue. What brilliant reasoning skills you have.
- Jaline0
actually, he posts a lot more in these types of threads, so that would make him correct.
He does not post frequently, but when he does post the number of posts in the thread is close to how many posts he has in this thread.

To all those posters who perhaps have been brought up in a semi/psuedo religious atmosphere, maybe attending church as kid, but getting older and realising it cant all have been true so declare "I am agnostic - I dont really believe either way"...
YOU ARE AN ATHEIST...
You are not declaring yourself a theist, therefore you 'are' (general sematics aside), an A-theist.
Being an atheist does not mean you entirely believe in the scientific account of creation, although if you studied in depth you would, it just means you do not accept the idea of an invisible imaginary 'character' controlling the world to a lesser or greater extent, according to some 'divine wisdom', which may or may not include manipulation of genetic code, spontaneous specialized organ creation, burning bushes, laws about stoning people, not healing kids with cancer, natural disasters and cosmology.
When incredible and awesome things happen, a theist will say 'look at the splendour and power of The Lord God Almighty' (beware - when they capitalise words it means they will not talk logically about these things, maybe extending this to whole run-on phrases such as JesusChristOurSaviorLordAndMaste...
and when kids get cancer, burned in fires, run over, murdered by paedophiles, they either say God didnt do it, and it was part of some hokey 'free will' mechanism He has implemented that allowed this to happen and that somehow it's 'our' fault, rather than His (Him being all powerful and all good, somewhat contradictarily)..
If you do NOT believe in such a set up, you are an ATHEIST, no matter what, if any other explaination you may or may not have.
It would be great if religion were true - it would be far simpler than the complex and difficult ideas that we have to extract from life otherwise, but it just depends how important truth is to you.

oh so when he does stumble here once every blue moon he spends all day posting in one thread incessantly?
i stand corrected.
- Jaline0
you're talking from a Christian perspective...
- Jaline0
^ I mean, miko, you're mainly talking about Christianity?

* Flagellum is actually a very intelligent, well mannered guy who is a pleasure, if not an infuriating pleasure, to debate.
- Jaline0
^ agreed.

Yes, generally I am, although I think my summary of theism could be easily extended to the greco-roman pantheon, Islam, Judaism, Seikism et al. I think Buddism is the only major that is different from the others, in that it is more a study of linguistics and semantics than theology.

"It is awfully cute though that you post a question I raised two years ago"
Yes, Because you were claiming you 'didn't know what usenet was' how 'cute'.
"..and pretend that that settled some kind of long-standing issue."
No, just gives an example of how your silly ideas stand up against informed challenges. Not very well.
Every time i see your name in a thread it's followed by the same old kookrant you've been spouting since way back. Namely the theory of evolution 'doesn't work' and is under 'serious threat' or has been 'disproved' by some Creationist drivel. This is, of course, untrue and the only reason you would say otherwise is either a) ignorance or b) piety.
and i don't think you are *that* ignorant.

Anyone who demonstrates religious standpoints strongly enough to actually argue them with people who have facts is merely testing their own resolve to believe these ideas..
That is, people with strong religious convictions seek out those without them, to externalise their own inner conflict, in an attempt to reinforce their own ability to control themselves - its a form of intellectual bulemia; the only thing over which these people have control in their lives is their ability to 'choose' their beliefs, and to a lesser or greater extent they succeed..
- FrdmOfSpch0
woah that's profound. props.
- Mimio0
Miko you put that so well.
- flagellum0
Brookoi:
"Yes, Because you were claiming you 'didn't know what usenet was' how 'cute'. "
What you call a "usenet" I call a "listserv". And how would I have gathered that you were making reference to single post I made on a listserv 2 years ago?
"No, just gives an example of how your silly ideas stand up against informed challenges. Not very well."
What idea of mine (without employing a strawman - not sure you're capable) specifically is "silly"? And why. Support your answer with data, not TO style just-so tales.
"Namely the theory of evolution 'doesn't work' and is under 'serious threat'"
I've never said that the "theory of evolution doesn't work". I've said that Darwin's synthesis of Natural Selection acting upon Random Mutations does not produce biological novelty. It shuffles pre-existing information. So, -1 for yet another strawman.
