I just picked up Uncanny X-men: Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar (written by Ed Brubaker) after having not read X-Men for years, and I'm pretty disappointed. The scattered reviews I read praise him for his writing, but what I found was really childish, cliche and underdeveloped. Meh. Polaris, Lorna, Hepzibah, Lilandra... they all just prance around giggling about having crushes on everyone, or who they want to kiss on the team, or who they just recently kissed in some spaceship corridor. Seriously, fucking yawn.
Vulcan is the most poorly developed and motivated villain I've seen in a while. When he randomly falls in love (yawn again) with Deathbird after a week in space... blegh. Warpath just clamors around acting like an idiot, they should have kept that character on the wayside.
Also, that Shi'ar guy Korvus is like a horrible combination between a Final Fantasy VII character with a giant sword and wolverine.
Someone please tell me one of the other recent X-books are worth reading?

Ok. I'm at a loss here. There's an image I've seen several times on the internet. It's essentially every silver-age comic cliche packed onto one cover. A cowboy riding a dinosaur shooting a shark. Or a it's riding a shark and shooting a robot. Fuck. I don't know. It's so strange that it defies description unless you're looking right at it. Does anyone know what I mean?

Not a damn clue. I'm not even sure I'm getting my cliches right at this point. It's almost midnight and all I can think of is this dumb cover. I'll probably find it at work tomorrow whilst searching for something legitimate.

I find that, if I download them, I never get into the "mood" of wanting to read them. Reading them on a computer screen is not a great experience.
Anyway, I'm buying all the "Buffy" comics I missed over the past year, and I'm getting "Kick-Ass" as per flavorful's recommendation. Did you ever end up liking "Y: The Last Man"?
