Hypothetically - if I had to pass my flash source files on to another party, but didn;t really wan this other party to be able to use them without asking me...how could one do that?

remove the comments, nest the AS in misc. MCs, jumble the functions...
come to think of it, i used to work with a guy you should call.
:)

what would be the point of giving them the source files then?

it's complicated and sensitive.

Change a bunch of critical movie clips into compiled clips. That way they're rendered ineditable.
I used to also easter egg everything with something that would randomly type "copyright My Name" if I held shift and typed my name.
Cheeky.

run the AS through a decompiler like Sothink SWF decompiler or Flare. It changes the variables to _loc1, _loc2, etc, makes it a real pain in the ass to work with

remove the notes etc...
... change all your variable names and mc names to very generic things... like... simple alphabetical stuff like elee said.
use the 'find and replace' option in the .as panel - should move rather quickly.
... on second thought... keep your notes... but translate them into Portuguese... and add lots of vulgarity to them.
