ever post a dead thread? seriously a great film, I just saw it for the first time after seeing all the clips everywhere. really brilliant filmmaking.

I saw it a couple of weeks ago for the first time. Laughed my arse off. I was glad it lost none of the cringeworthiness of the original segments.
- Jaline0
The cringeworthiness is what I don't like about it, and I have a pretty good sense of humour. Some of the film was great, but others weren't. I like Cohen too.
I think you have to have a specific sense of humour to enjoy this film.
Maybe I'm wrong. Or maybe I was just not in the mood that day.

the cringyness is gone once you consider how produced it was. the pam stuff is proof, it was obviously set up and she had something to do with it, I'd bet most of the rest was pretty set up too

i still cannot believe he had his face in that naked fat mans ass...

I like that aspect of it, keeps it in line with the original feel of the character's segments on late night UK tv.
...just like the (UK) Office did, something that was lost/wringed out of the US version. It felt more like a watered down version of Office Space, like a weak spinoff of Anchorman.

Well, yeah, that Pam think was definitely staged.
5timuli, I enjoy the US version of The Office.

(Apr 7 07, 20:31)Me too Jaline, found it hilarious, but it was a totally different beast from the UK version.
Easier on the palate but a bit dry. My oh my I sound so cultured (pfft, yeah right - I'm watered up to the eyeballs on cheap beer).

i understood the humor but i found it predictable and not very funny. was bored after 20 minutes.

i loved the inside jokes spoken in Hebrew.
i love even more how people dont realize that is the language he is speaking thru-out the whole movie.

saw it for the first time last night and i have to be honest;
- concept is absolutly brilliant. perfectly executed and a wonderful commentary on this countries farked-up emotions.
- i did not like the filmmaking
- the wonderful use of internalized emotions in the little segments he does (think: in van w/o plane ticket after fight) are wonderful. they would have been more influencial if used more, IMO.
great work by a real inovator, but i did not like the 'film' that much.

I thought it was a load of shit, saw it for the second time on Saturday.

I only saw it recently too and, aside from the overwhelming ponderance on anti-semitism, i thought it was funny as hell.
I don't want to think about how stage-managed it was - I just want to keep that image of two naked idiots fighting at an insurance convention.
- Nairn0
hey epill - what you think of those clear skins? have you tried burning one alone? there's quite a hefty smoke that billows off those things - i'd be wary :\

Whoops... this thread is a month old.

--------I dont know any girls that have found this film as funny as any guys did.
i think its more in tune with boys sense of humour.
- Jaline0
I was thinking about that, and as much as I am wary of saying that it is more in tune with guys' (more gross) sense of humour, I think you're right.

i played a few clips from one of the old ali-g dvds for my mom and she loved them. Of course, the raunchy stuff I left out.
He can be really smart and charming.. I find the edge interesting but sometimes-like jackass and tom green, it goes to far and the laws of diminishing returns kick in.
"Blades of Glory" that's the new funny masterpeice for me.

Jaline's a girl???

Eh ... I thought it was really funny, but I knew it could not live up to the hype everyone made it out to be.
I waited for it on DVD as I couldn’t stand the people who were going to it and didn’t even watch the Ali G show...
I am a snob about the weirdest things, heh.
Still funny though, incredibly so in some (most) parts.
