Forgive me for being so cathartic but I have a lot on my shoulders and want to hear what you guys think.
I work at a large software company as a graphic designer in a user experience team that includes us, human factors engineers, and tech writers. We are considered organizationally to be part of the development team and 90% of the developers and managers we work with respect what we do and include us as an integral part.
The other 10% spend their time when we are in the room vocally and vehemently discounting what we contribute and invent situations we can't affect until its too late and we look bad.
I started with the current team about 4 months ago and started working to pre-empt this with aggressive status and working meetings and working hard and fast with individual developers. There's been a significant shift in quality of working environment but there's still some rough parts. Here's a typical working meeting:
The first 5-30 minutes: me and one of the developers (who for some reason has power in the dev team) yell at each other about the validity of my team's work until I convince him that he doesn't have an option so he might as well work with us instead of against us.
The rest of the meeting is productive and we seem to accomplish a lot including setting up the things we're gonna test in the next week. Then the test happens, he decides our process and users are both inadequate because they don't follow his preference and we launch into the cycle again.
It seems like no matter how much we get his buy in or try to work with the dev team its completely hostile, mostly between that guy and his manager and the rest of the UI team developers included.
I don't even know what I'm asking here but if you made it through all of this cheers to you. Any thoughts on the subject?
I'm gonna go get some food and play some drums now.

it does sound like a little ritual he has invented..
Do some research on Transactional Analysis and try to spot exactly what hes doing in this 'game'..
Call him out on it, and prove that he's just playing a game by writing down exactly what you knew he was going to say on paper, and handing it to him out of your pocket just after he has said it..
