Can eat a sack of dicks. Here's the short version of last night's tech support chat:
Me: My internet speed is very slow, has been for a while, consistently testing at dial up levels. I'm connected directly to the modem.
Comcast: Your ping and tracert are fine. When you test do you use the machine IP or the modem IP?
Me: Machine
Comcast: Use the modem IP, you'll get better results.
Me: I can fake whatever numbers you want, the fact of the matter is that it takes half an hour or more to download a 15 mb file.
Comcast: Your numbers are fine, if you want to get a new modem you can rent one from us for $3.
Me: So my options are suck it up and deal, or pay you for something that may not fix the problem?
Comcast: Pretty much.Not very comcastic. I'll be switching somewhere else now, thank you.

I have no alternatives. Maybe when that new fiberoptic verizon thing comes

I have the same problems with cablevision/optimum online. Can't wait for FIOS to come here.
