thanks guys, I'll give em the benefit of the doubt but I'm not convinced.
interesting how much stuff gets re-appropriated in design, only makes me want to do something completely different.
- neue75_bold0
why? just out of curiosity...
clearly it's more for yourself than for the benefit of others...
- vespa0
it would be different if it was rendered in paper cuts. you could wear a cape and become known as a crack Brand Reinforcement Agent

but seriously originality is always best. this is the law of the creative world.
it's the job of marketeers to feed poo back to consumers quick enough to make them think they are eating food, don't let that be our job too.

I designed the original mill logo, as well as red cross and target

ah! Carver! NT needs Carver back to mix it up a bit!

im interested to know who the rude company/companies were......???
- neue75_bold0
yeah, but sadly people are often more likely to purchase something they feel they already know...
being different has it's place, but often it's at the end of the queue to conformity... and truly, if it's your initial aim at the outset of a project, you're probably ignoring too many more important factors...
yet, I think this is mostly within commercial print design, the web, motion graphics and youth-orinted design arenas definitely desire something 'different' every week...

so its shown in a site with lots of work... I'm talking about if it is shown on a tape bag or out of context...

classic...

interestingly enough I have loads of masters from the mill in my library and on it's own I had no idea what it meant even when I was signing for tapes from the mill, it took somebody to actually point it out to me like what that bozo kon23 said, after I was shown what it read I actually thikn it is great but before that I didn't even register that it was readable or even a logo.
I only like it because it is clever that is all.

Don't think that other one is really a rip, more coincidence... not a lot to play with with really is there

(Apr 4 07, 05:09)Agreed, with all those vertical strokes seems an obvious solution typographically!

I don't think it's a rip personally. Liek Mime said there ain't that much to work with. More a coincedence.
On the note of interviews. I have only ever walked away from one (shall remain nameless) but a well known place. Plus a certain bigwig in the industry told a mate of mine that he never had a chance in London cause he turned down a placement at the respective agency.
There are very few gancies that do truly original work Johnson Banks being one. I can only name a handful that sound like they will fulfill your requirements. Either bite the bullet or go it alone....
Gd Lk though and let us know how you do
D!!

Vespa,
well said. I have been leading the debate in my own studio regarding "design v. marketing"We've developed a very scientific approach to identifying the difference:
If you feel "icky" while doing it... it's got to be marketing.
- paraselene0
where is baskerville? what say you, sir? is this a hoax?
- vespa0
so how about that other thread huh? busted! does baskerville know about it or is he going to go to the interview unaware that his cover as a crack brand reinforcement agent has been blown?
- vespa0
oh wait what? it was a hoax? god i'm so hungover i'm crying tears of alcohol that are evaporating before they hit my keyboard. para do you have a spare braincell i could borrow for the morning?
- paraselene0
dunno if it was a hoax or not. just wondering what b has to say about all of this. perhaps he has some idea what's going on. or maybe he's walking into the lion's den this very moment!
i have about three spare brain cells, doll. and you're welcome to them. today i've just got some very boring content extraction to do!
good weekend, i take it?
:)
- agentfour0
im lost.
what was a hoax?
- mimeartist0
never seen it on its own in my 10 years of involvement with the mill... perhaps i was mistaken...
stick think it is one of the best logos out there
