I am not a big fan of roses. Tulips work

yeah. outside of that!!
i've heard horror stories of ftd and 1-800-flowers...my very awesome cousin died and i wanted to send his mate something unusual and striking instead of the old sympathy crap...

Well that is a lie, all colours, and flowers have like deeper meanings - google search that shit and then act like you never did, haha.
Send her flowers that all start with her initials or something, or basically find her favourite flowers and get them in a wide array.
Unique vases and containers are a plus.

Ehrm, death is weird. Since I don’t know the people, I am not sure how non-traditional you should go.
I would call a flower shop that is local to where the viewing is, and talk to them about getting something traditional to be honest.
They will deliver the flowers for you to t he church, service place, wherever, and it has the local feel to it.
Plus, they know better and they know what would or would not look rite.
Every viewing that I have gone to by doing that, the people have been very appreciative and have even put them rite next to the casket. And the ones that I have not been present too, I have gotten heart felt thank yous.
Just be there for him, flowers are secondary.
:D

some people dislike flowers and would rather you give a donation to a charity.
flav is right. ask first.
- mrseaves0
yeah. can't be there...
traditional would be nice- but don't people just send flowers/plants to the house, and not necessarily for the "viewing"? i hate that word.
- mrseaves0
i like the charity idea!

Gucci is rite too, heh.
There is usual a line in an the obituary like, "In lieu of flowers please donate to such and such under the name of..."
I do both.
Because everyone loves flowers... hahaha.

Yea, I’d do more festive flowers if sent to the house for sure. They don’t want mourning flowers for sure, they want morning flowers!

it's tough if you're sending since you have to go through one of these larger companies whose flowers are always so lame.

I hate when I type, and then restart and use the same phrase twice, hahah.

sorry mrseaves to hear about your cousin - i know it's such a stereotype but many gay men work as florist. i would call a florist and sincerely ask for any homosexual men that happen to work there - explain your situation - they will totally hook you up. Sincere honesty is going to get you everywhere.
Sorry for you loss. =(

Where the hell are my manners, mrseaves, I completely glazed over the fact this was your pal and just kept talking about flowers, haha.
Sorry for your loss buddy.
