k, curious for anyone who knows industrial designers and/or concept artists.
take a look at something like this..
http://www.cellphonebeat.com/ent…
now, the guy who designed that.. if ur in that kind of job, do you just CONCEPTUALIZE it (the fun part) and thats it? or do you actually need to create all of the tedious specifications (sizes, materials, etc) for the entire thing -- or is that someone else's job? like, do these guys just create the cool idea, get it confirmed, and then pass it off to someone else whose job it is to create realistic specs for it?

depends on a lot of factors, like budget, technology available from vendors, materials...

What is "that kind of job"?
This is likely just a guy that threw that together in his spare time.
And how is determining sizes and materials tedious? How do you design something without any knowledge or foresight into the materials being used?

looks like a 'blue sky' concept proposal...so it doesnt need any detailed specs (and probably is relying on technology that isnt quite production-ready)..its just a thought starter...
a designer working on taking this sort of concept through to production would work with a team of technical designers and engineers to bring the concept onto package, making it manufacturable, etc...

the detail is the fun part
