Can anyone recommend a good lighting system for a design studio - not for photography, just a working environment. I have 4 spotlights at the moment and the light is poor - my eyeballs burn at the end of the day. I know a fluorescent light gives plenty of light but don't they flicker like a crt monitor, burning your retina! what lighting did you choose for your studio? Images would be great!
Thanks

Hey, we have recently installed two light walls. Basically massive lightboxes set into the wall with 3 7' daylight bulbs in each then a sheet of diffusing perspex over the front to make them flush with the wall.
Makes an enormous difference and not single sign of SAD all winter.
Easy to do. But the biggest difference is the daylight bulbs..worth every penny, also makes proofing print more accurate.

Atomis potlights are expensive, but really nice, and they engineer the shit out of them to work well in your type of setting.
They use reflectors that don't cast glares and/or blind people and provide an even amount of light. They have examples of the photometrics etc of their stuff... check it out.
