inline pdf controls?

here's the situation: i have a pdf (generated by someone far, far away) that gets uploaded to a server. website customer wants said pdf's (first) page to act as inline thumbnail on webpage. this must happen without my (or anyone's) interaction beyond uploading (the pdf's filename will remain the same every day overwriting old file, so that's not the issue). first off, is it possible to just use standard html tag ("img" i would assume) to call preview? second, if the previous is true, what controls are available to make sure the thumbnail only appears at about 15% of the original size? **note : i know that using the "img" tag will display the pdf inline, but i can't get it to show more than the lower left corner of the pdf. also, i don't need the pdf controls (print, scale, etc), just the thumbnail. the pdf will link to the full size. someone?! anyone!?!

i made something for a client that produced thumbnails of pdf's, we used php and the gd library to convert it to a jpg.

that's what else i was afraid of...the pdf will be hosted on a super-nazi controlled server...no php, databases, or basically any installing of any other software by me....
