G5 sleep problems

i heard this issue before.
it's may be from the external hd or usb/firewire stuffs that u connect. but i'm not sure if this is a correct answer.

it happens on my PB.
someone told me to take out the battery and hold down the power button for 10 seconds to reset the SMC (not sure if I remember the name correctly). It resets your computer's sleep settings and battery functions, etc.I haven't tried it yet, but thought I should pass along the info.

we had this happen with an imac g5, it would go to sleep and the fans would kick on full blast and the machine would then refuse to wake up.
