i too would like some input on the above suggestions, and others if they are out there.
My Impressions:
-Yahoo stores seems a tad expensive for low-volume
- Big Cartel requires merchant *must* have PayPal account- wtf?
- QuickStoreBuilder looks lame and not flexible in the display.
- Shopify uses 'Textile' language for markup? um....
any others i should/want to know about? funny, but after working exclusively with self-hosted applications and sites, i could kind of care less if this is a 3rd party service or local. :)

paypal is decent
create your own site
add paypal buttonseither manage all stock yourself or you could build a CMS to keep tabs of everything. you can also have your own 'basket' then once everything is ready to be processed - thats when you handover to a paypal screen.
at least everyone knows paypal - so better than going for some second rate service that people wont have heard of.
im not saying paypal is the best, but ive never had any problems with them or my wee shop.

I like the Paypal buttons the best.
Big Cartel is ok, but only for smaller shops.

thanks a bunch, people.
while more than experienced w/ setting this up w/ a CMS and hosting the entire app, i was looking for insights into any of these 3rd party services- you gave them to me for sure. i really thought there were some lowcost 'good' ones, but BigCartel seems to be it.
the paypal thing is not bad, but i just prefer C.C. transfers through SSL; saves another step in the user's experience (say, grandma wants to just get the Marmot Jacket for her grandson and be done with it and does not have a PayPal acct).
diggity; i like the idea of google checkout, but there is no ability to have a store- just complete transaction, no?

i've had good luck with zen cart, though i found the configuration of the whole thing to be an exercise in hoop jumping.
