but overall I think it's great....
if you're a business that can afford to stop nickel and diming your people, that is.

Whats the average salary for a web designer over there?

i was astounded at the pay rates in canada when i was there. In relation to living expenses, pay is crap.
I worked in a photo lab for 2 months (with no prior experience) for $10.00 and hour and the asst manager had been there 3 years and was being paid $11.00 per hour.
although this was a tiny little ski town in alberta.
but then again the did charge $12.00 to process 1 roll of film.
no idea how this carries through to other jobs, but that sucked.

I work in the government so my pay is fine. Actually, anyone who works with the government is pretty well-off, I think, and Ottawa is full of those workers.
But it obviously varies. The rates here are close to the U.S.A, sometimes better.

It's still shit. But better than $6.85, which it was a few years ago.
I know most people who are on min wage are below the age of 20. But there is still a decent percentage of workers mostly immigrant workers, who are on that end of the pay scale. You would have a hard time paying rent, and buying food etc on that kind of money, and if you had a family.... Most people who earn min wage, hold down a second job.
Personally I think it should be at at least $15 an hour.

Yeah, $15 makes sense.
I was surprised to learn that I make just a few dollars less than my mother, who works at a school board. They really do get paid shit.

(Mar 22 07, 04:15)Teachers are paid nothing. I recieved my teachinig degree last year, and my assigned pay scale was 35,000 year. And that's with 4 years post secondary.
I think that works out to around $15-17 an hour?
Big bucks are in skilled labour, I went to school with a guy who took college tech program --tool and die, and hes making about 80k a year.
