also, just so people remember, the iPod costed me over 400 $'s back in the day (a while back) for a 40GB version.
That is sad.
Now I am going to go cry.

Mine is in the mail... somewhere around Alaska I think.. should be here on Friday.
Our home office has a big tv, and thats where everyone always ends up, so now I can put music and vid's on the iTV and let people play with that, and not mess up my iTunes on a work machine..
Plus, if you want that ONE episode of a show that you missed, you can order it up..
I'll post if (hopefully) it works!!

Can you play divx .avi movies on AppleTV? Or just downloaded iTunes store videos?
- nicnichols0
I think you may have to convert them, but you should be able to play anything you can transfer thru iTumes..

i think 'hope' that you can play anything that quicktime can play, if i'm not mistaken.

Not right now.
The movies are near DVD quality. With all the big push for HDTV and HD quality, why would I buy a movie that's not as good of quality as a regular DVD?!?
They are not widescreen. Again... why did I just buy a widescreen TV?!?
They take about 2 hours to download, so if you want a movie now you'll have to wait two hours to watch it.
It's all about the SYNC. Pay special attention to that. You can only SYNC 20 movies at a time. If you have 40 movies in your library and want to watch one that isn't SYNCd uh oh... gotta go to the puter, reSYNC everthing and add that movie to the list. All of this takes time.
All of this is why iTunes movie selection is so small right now. It's not taking off at all.
It's a nice start but it has a long ways to go.

Oh, shit! Thanks, Kona. I will hold off.

I have a MacBook Pro with a 23" HD apple monitor. It came with a remote and everything that the apple TV has. I simply sit back in my chair and watch all my downloaded shows / movies via my monitor.
Also, they are def not up do DVD quality and it shows. Why would I buy the apple TV station when I can do everything from my desktop? (including waking up and listening to news podcasts in the morning without even leaving the bed) I have not had cable for over a year now, and don' feel like I need it.

hey puck does that remote only control apple tv or can you control other programs from it - ie safari?

i don't understand paying for media that's already free.

It's funny. In their "What you need" category it says you need a widescreen TV which I suppose the user is to think that means the videos are widescreen. Nope.
You need the widescreen for the menu so it's width can fit on the TV. Then you start watching the movie and it's a 4:3 aspect ratio.
However. There is rumor that the next version of Quicktime will allow you to save the widescreen 720i ratio. So 'high def' is somewhat on the way.
Again. I think it's a good step but it's not quite where it should be for this to take off.
Plus BlueRay might just be the way of the future if the price comes down.

It's a good and a shit idea at the same time... I watch TV on my TV, listen to music on my hi-fi. I don't want my music on my TV, and I don't wanna pay for crappy 5 minute Pixar animations and watch those my my TV.
Until it'll stream ANYTHING on my Mac I ain't touching it.
I'm in the UK btw, so there ain't shit to download on the iTunes store really. But until the movies are available, are hi-def quality and very cheap I STILL ain't diggin' it.
Ya get me?
- morilla0
haha, valium buddy. It's heading in that direction.

BeyondTV and MythTV have more features and flexibility, of course without the iTunes connection
