Hmmm. Well - I always find vacation time depends on your seniority. A junior -> senior designer usually gets 2 weeks plus alot of places also give a week of at xmas.
Where I'm at right now (Grip Limited), I get 3 weeks vacation, plus 5 personal days I can use at any time, plus a week at Xmas, plus all of the long weekends from May until September have an extra day added so that we get 4 day weekends. So really..... it's essentially 6 weeks of vacation.
Last two places before Grip I've been have been 3 weeks plus a week at xmas as well. So.... I think it really depends on where you're looking, and how good you are at negotiating the things you want.

If you want to live in a place less congested, look into Ottawa.
Montreal and Toronto are great, but are extremely busy all the time. Traffic in Ottawa is pretty much a joke.
Ottawa has some great museums but it's true that mainly government people live here. Makes sense. But it also allows for some opportunities. And whatever design we have here...it's refreshing.

Does the government have design jobs? or are these mostly outsourced to agencies?
