it depends on your code, if your code is dependant on player8 you have no option. otherwise go for player 6. if you embedd the swf with swfObject you can specify the player version when its embedded and if the user has a lower version they are asked to upgrade.

Hey undo, thanks for the response.
Some good reading in there. I'll look over it and see if I can use the code however I think my boss my just urge me to go with a lower player version.
I find the text becomes quite rough looking cos Im not using pixel fonts. Any suggestions?

decent rendering of fonts didnt happen to 8 - so theres yr catch. If he wants the fonts to look good then go for 8 otherwise 6. the adoption of the new flash player is very good so publishing for player 8 shouldnt be a problem

the percentage difference between 6 and 8 is so little worthwhile doing it in 8...

I think it fear people not wanting to upgrade that'll mean I'll have to export it to a lower version. Shame but what can ye do eh?
this is what I was doing, its really only the font thats making me push for player 8

I have a site that uses Player 7. If I use v.8, my stats show that's 3.5% less users can view the content.
Doesn't sound like much, but for this site it's 4,300 users / month.
Depends on your target audience... if your marketing to hi-tech people 8 will be fine, if you want to reach the mass audience, go with 6 or even 7 if you need features that came out in 7.
