Anyone ever deal with termite damage in your home? I just fell in love with a house and the inspection revealed old termite damage. Anyone ever deal with this? I might have to walk away from this house if the $$ is too much. :/

something tells me you'd better walk away from this place... better safe than sorry?

rats/cockroaches/termites means you already lost,
get the fuck out as fast as you can

if it's definitely old damage, and not extensive it's no big deal

You always have to expect that there's more damage than you see. if the house is worth it and you've got the money to pour into it (expecting to spend more than you wanted) then go for it.
it kinda depends on how much you love it.

yeah pretty common, some friends discovered them in a house they bought a few years ago. bitch to get rid of but doable.
if it's a dream house definitely not a deal breaker... better yet use the problem to your advantage w/ a reduced counter offer. now that the termites have been uncovered by inspection the seller has to by law make it public knowledge, so they'll prolly want to sell fast.
have a specialist inspect the situation and quote treatment before you proceed.

(Mar 11 07, 14:19)in other words if they say its a major job to fully treat and repair damage, ie. 10G, then deduct 10G from your offer (assuming you stated your offer was subject to inspection... i hope.. ?)

have the seller fix it. they are going to have to now anyway. Their realtor will have to disclose that to any other potential buyers

thanks, guys. I appreciate the advice. I'm having a contractor come out tomorrow and give me a quote on the damage. The sellers are having their own contractor take a look; hopefully the two contractors will not vary too much in scope.
wish me luck.

hope it all works out
