What a stupid fucking website. AIGA and no-spec.com can suck my balls.
I'm going to make no-work-lunches.com because I think networking and personal relationships are a waste of time. I mean you waste all that time for what??? BUSINESS OPPURTUNITIES? Pshah! Everything should be done on contract and no favor should be done without a paper trail!

I'm reading through the reasons, it's such trash.
"It produces poor design" -Right, which is why all the big ad firms will engage in spec work, at least at the conceptual/storyboard level. EVERYONE worth a damn pitches.
"It degrades the value of design" -Words from someone afraid to compete
"You don't have rights to your work because there isn't a contract" -AAAHAHA, this copy sounds like it was written by an freshmen art student who hasn't even heard of IP rights.

GT... I think you've somehow become upset w/both sides of the issue while thinking you're angry at the same thing... :)
no-spec.com is for people who have your feelings. :) They're on your side regarding IP rights etc... AIGA meet-ups and the like on-the-other-hand: I share your annoyance, as do the folks at no-spec.com.

Yeah my buddy is starting a clothing line and he needed a website so I'm helping him out, doing it for ridiculously cheap. So my friend who is a designer as well says "Why would you do that? What he wants is a lot of work." I reply "It's an investment you'll see." Sure enough had a meeting with him last night and he told me he realizes how important it is and that if I wasn't doing it he would have to pay some one top dollar. So now I'm getting more money and free cloths all because I saw an opportunity form something that was almost something to something worth while.
I agree though there are a retarded amount of cheap skates that think anyone and their dog could do it. So I just say if it's so easy why don't you fucking do it?

Abandoned knows what's up. Nothing is EVER guaranteed in this world, business is about risks.

The thing I find awkward about this is that it sometimes comes across as really preachy by the 'design community'.
Its always framed in terms of 'devaluing the potential of design and ultimately does a disservice to the client"
What a load of crap.
We don't like it because no one wants to work for fucking free.
End of Story. NO of this, reduced quality bullshit or 'trying to service cleints better' hogwash.
