Hi everyone,
My company is asking me to come up with some measurable metrics for our software design in terms of the look and feel of the visual design aspect of it. Not so much the usability or accessibility aspect of it, more the design. The term best of breed is being thrown out a lot.
So the question is, do any of you epic geniuses have any information or any links to info on how to measure design metrics? Thanks for whatever you can provide.
rob.

(Mar 7 07, 12:48)I have, but what we're looking for is more of how to grade ourselves on a standard scale, not so much how to make usable software which we go through before the design process. I'm not sure we would want to grade ourselves by how closely we follow apple's rules.

i hate to say it, but user groups, community and focus testing would all be relevant metrics.

not to mention feedback taken from users of the site/app.
i personally hold this above user groups, but in many instances, both are a luxury.....

are you looking to formalise the feedback into a matrix for comparative analysis? you may want to look at social science methods for qualitative analysis and stuff like that.
or not.

I think measuring the value of visual design comes down to subjective opinions and how they would rate on a scale. Ask the business stake holders, the users, the marketing team, the development team. Setting goals of getting X% of positive feedback could be a start in the right direction.
