what do you guys think is a good percent to charge upon start of a 1,000 - 1,500 web design project? 10% upon signing of contract??

at least 50% down to start, another 25% before you start to code (mockup finalized and signed off) last 25% before you launch.

However, the smaller the project gets in relation to fees (for example your under 5k project) I feel 50/50 is perhaps better.

i do 50, 50 for most
if a project is real long, i will do something like 30, 40, 30
and sometimes, i spread the 40 into smaller payment, like if it takes 4 months, then 10 per month or something
it depends on the client, but i like 50, 50 best
