Portfolio site opinions?

Hope I can make this an easy question. Slowly finishing up my portfolio site that will include recent client work, artwork, photos, contact info and about info.
I've also been slowly building up a wordpress site that I've used simply as a place to store bookmarks from work and home. I don't really use it as a blog as much as a place to organize things. It's certainly a place I could utilize for more personal things like vacation photos, etc.
Question is - how seperate do you feel a portfolio and a more personal non-portfolio site should be?
Some people make them one and the same, some people don't relate the two to each other at all.
Would like to hear your opinion on this - thanks.

two seperate urls.
link from the personal to the professional if you want but not the other way around.

I always thought your professional site should be just that... professional. No politics, no personal blog about you getting messed up on booze over the weekend, no photos of yourself drunk... that sorta thing.
And your personal site can be whatever you want.
When looking for work include your professional site on the resume.
That's what I think anyways. That's why I have the two sites I do. The one posted here is my personal play site. The other is for finding work.

def. two, like mikeatwork.com and mikeatplay to maintain a theme between them both or michael, whichever your preference is for, but i sport different domains for different things, so what's another 8-9 bucks a year anyway right? :)

professional site should be – professional.
Anything else you want to do/show/eat/etc... do it somewhere else.

I have a play site that is completely dedicated to my penis.
Although, the site is very short and I always prematurely exhaust my bandwidth. :/

sorry about that kona, i keep refreshing to see if the site will ever get any bigger with content, sadly as it looks like it's finally loading something, all i see is "server not available" a couple times i felt like it was really going to happen

on my new site I'm building now. I will have an 'updates' section. This will show small ideas/thought I have relating to design. More creative than a blog but not necessarily professional work. I think it is important for employers to see that you have a personal interest in design related issues, as well as your work.

When I first started reading this thread, I thought it was another from Baskerville ;p
I have 2 completely separate sites. one is my portfolio. the other is just full of ideas, both on a design level and on a 3D, fashion, and other bits.
A final site I have is purely for family –pics and stuff

Thanks for your thoughts. Pretty much what I was thinking.
What if the main portfolio url was
"name.com"and the personal site was
journal.name.com or name.com/journal.
Or you think it should be a totally seperate url?
