With friends I've decided to just get paid in booze and get ridiculous discounts in whatever business they want me to make a site and shit for, and/or get a stake in the ground level of the business, heh.

Did she sign a contract?
Baskerville
(Feb 28 07, 08:30)Yes. She even agreed to my terms for late payments.
At the point I started this project she had been late on two previous projects, I put the extra terms in there to scare her into paying on time.
I guess it didn't work. :/

haha. nah, I was just going to say that you could give her more emails since you said she was hot. And....yeah.

lol @ OSFA!
haha!
Now I want to go home and take the site down. I'm all pumped up.

I vote take it down.
Don't just switch the index page, actually move the site so it cannot be access by typing in the address for individual pages.
As if shes that smart.
And yes Jaline, do share!

Friends as paying clients?
NEVER AGAIN!It adds something to the mix - some intangible attribute that eventually f*cks up everything.
You're also far more likely to get pissed at your friends because you're not in normal "client detachment" mode.
If I have the time to do it, it's just a freebie, or not at all.

Have a look at the Graphic Arts Guild Book on Pricing and Ethical Guidelines. They have a good section on dealing with late payment. There is a kind of proper way in terms of submitting letters, calling, a few times and then engaging a lawyer.
But in short, I would say if you havent been paid, then they dont own anything – I am sure your contract stipulates this in some way?
So, take it down.

something Tommy had done for a client that hadn't paid for over a year, however, we only left it up for a few minutes :)

overall doug, it seemed as if you behaved with great restraint and were polite about the whole thing. her getting pissed at you because she's a stingy, disorganised liar, is pretty rich. i don't think i'd want to keep a friend around who'd dick me around and then get mad at me for it.
make sure you cash that check asap :)

Perhaps take it down but I would not put up a "pending payment" on there. This is just petty and juvenile.
When I wanted a payment I went over to the office spoke to them FACE TO FACE and waited in the office till a cheque arrived. It took 10mins.
