For anyone that's done a lot of page layout. I've got a Word doc that I'm printing two sided, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the page numbers to come out correctly. If you're looking at a two page book spread, the left page should have the number in the top left and the right page with the number in the top right.
Has anyone done much work with Word (I know I know) as far as that sort of page layout goes? I'm sure InDesign has this capability, but the file's in Word and the page numbering is crucial.
Any help would be much appreciated!!

i dont think word can do that..

or you can center everything

You can import a Word document into InDesign and preserve page breaks.

you're fucked.
Sorry mate, not to be doom and gloom, but the page numbers even once you've manually entered them is not your biggest problem.
Word uses the default printer driver to determine layout AT creation, that means that line breaks, page breaks etc can all go tits up if you print to another device.
I've had people in tears over this "function" before now.

-> Format -> Layout -> check Different odd and even
go back to
Insert -> Page Number ->
and you should see layout of how it will show on left and right

hey did you try using Outside setting in Page Number?
i am using Outside only and seems to do the same
try that and than do the Different Odd etc..

And sorry, its Format -> Document

yah... i am not sure how your doc is formatted so ..
- Page number -> Outside
than if that dont work..
- Format -> document -> layout -> Different Odd ...

I did try Outside. But when I print duplexed it doesn't seem to be smart enough to keep the numbers on the Outside.
Thanks for your help!

Oh and it's under File -> Page Setup. You can alternate headers on even and odd pages.
Works like a charm if you're printing straight out of Word.
