im trying to figure out how many PC users have Clear Type enabled for their windows XP font smoothing.
i know on both of my systems, it was set on "Standard" for the smoothing, and not Clear Type (which is obviously better).
is cleartype not the default for win xp users? cause thats ridiculous and small fonts on websites look so much worse.

I believe it's currently disabled by default with the normal XP installation. Although it looks like IE7 has it enabled by default:

Yeah, I've always had to enable it on every XP machine I've ever used/owned.

I've had it install as default AND not on different installations. weird

It's rendering is shite - I turn it off (to standard).

(Feb 23 07, 07:13)Really? I've always loved Cleartype, much clearer than OSX imho. There is a "tuner" app from MS you can use to get it spot on if the defaults dont look right.

IE7 has it on by default, but only for itself and OE, the rest of the system stays pixelated. Vista has it on systemwide.
I second cleartype tuner.
It can get much better with that.
