Yep, l o a d s !
...And most of them had an initial idea that was really cool, but the client said "no it's too creative", and so they got shit in it's place!

even the best companies dump well paid crap nobody gets to hear of :)

there's no reason you can't show a better option in your folio rather than the worse option the client chose.
you still designed it. I've got a few things in my folio that show a better option for a project than the final result.

most of the stuff, to be honest, or certainly if we're talking about how good things *look* and how designy they are. Not too much wow in the portfolio, tbh, I'm reasonably proud of a lot of the more technical/interface aspects of some of the stuff I've done, particularly for the bigger clients.

I'm about to start a wee job for a friend's company which I know will turn out ruff.
I could do it my own way and maybe be quite happy with it - but I've spent the last 3 years drilling the merits of brand cohesion into him. Now I'm stuck with his logo and 'font' and have to make it fit with all the DIY stuff they've done so far.
Smart move, dickie, smart move.

anytime you see a portfolio link to a screenshot instead a url, you know the client's been getting their money's worth out of the CMS.

I think we all have those buried somewhere deep in and old file. Those projects exists cause we either f***d up or we were used as pixel monkeys by a client turned art director for the day, but as long as they pay it's all good even though it may make us feel like cheap whores... or does it?

and i quote...
"It's probably a design faux pas, and you hate to do it like that, but if you could increase the overall logo size by 1/4" the text will be legible."
in reference to a triangle mark with 14 characters of unreadable text beneath it they like to refer to as their logo.
this was from him yesterday written to someone else:
"You don't need to remind me of how the design process works. I've been
at it a lot longer than you.Regarding my comments, I am the customer. Am I not? Because if I don't
have a say in the design of OUR WEBSITE, please let me know."

I work on gay porn where I retouch cocks all day, and for lunch we all must eat footlong meatball subs.
