I agree, it does take something away from the experience.
I guess when you have some OCD such as myself you feel like you have to document it when you watch something so amazing, so that you can remember it later on. It's different from family vacations or other things you document, b/c you feel like you could do those things whenever you wanted to. But going to a show feels like a once-in-a-lifetime thing, depending on who it is.

i took a phone with me to placebo and she wants revenge in LA last october.
i called my phone back home and recorded two songs to the answering machine to hear when i got back
i took pictures of two other songs (about 40 in all) and took video of a track with the phone as well and emailed it to myself
also at that same show, i looked across 5 of my friends who i invited along, whose tickets i bought and cried when the songs i liked were played.
there aren't words for that kind of happiness, lucky for me i have those crappy recordings and shaky pictures to help remind of the picture i have in my head of my friends all happy with smiles on their faces beside me.

I think you miss out on something when you're focusing on recording the show rather than fully experiencing it. I'm not sure what it is.
At the same time, it's totally worth it to have that to look back on, and to be able to show other people.
Justin, you saw She Wants Revenge? I really want to see them sometime.

yeah for some reason placebo opened for them, i went to see placebo. there sets were about the same length, swr had more lights was about the only difference. i took no photos or video of swr, only placebo.

I just went to a Christina Aguilera concert last night. You know, since her new album is "Back to Basics" and is pretty good. Plus, it's Aguilera, and it's Ottawa. Which means it's a must-see, since big artists are just now coming over here more often.
Anyway, I was going to say that I took over 95 pictures / videos and it didn't distract me from the concert that much. In fact, I feel so much better knowing I have all these memorable things (since I won't be remembering everything later).

Yeah, she's pretty hot. The Pussycat Dolls were too transvestite-like, even though they did wear little slits of clothing for their boobs and crotch. I'll post some photos up on Flickr later.
There were so many set changes and costume changes it was crazy. I could never have the energy that girl does.
