ok, I'm just thinking.
You can set a link on a page to scroll down to a set place in a set of paragraphs. And I know you can set a page so that it isn't scrollable
My question is, could you in theory use those two features to create a menu system.
So you click on a link and it scrolls you down to another set of links etc but with the scolling switched off so users can't scroll around at their will and see all the different sections.

anchor links?

yes anchor links, like on this page:
http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/str…
there's a menu at the top and it take you down to a set area of the page.
But what I want to do is to create big gaps between sections of the page so when you click on an anchor link it takes you to another set of links. It should look like the menu is updating but really it's just travelling to another area of the page

but I want it with no scrolling so that users can't move around as they please. They have to use the links they are given

you are asking for trouble with the infinite amount of browser window sizes. who's to say which one will display properly after the page scrolls.

So basically you just want rid of the horizontal scroll bar
- canuck0
that should be vertical.

(Feb 15 07, 09:11)yeah I suppose that is what I want but I'm just starting out learning html for fun. It that complex?

it's not too hard if you just want them to 'snap' into place. if you want to animate them, that's a little more tricky. i can probably dig some code up for you either way.

if you want them to appear in place, you'd actually just show/hide them
