bad check from a client $2500.
did you guys know that's a felony, punishable up to 5 years???!!!!
i have to do it. this guy hasn't paid me anything in 5 months.
i feel like shit for it, but he should have never hired me if he couldn't pay.

Did you ask for a certified check? If the check isn't certified, and the client's bank is in your town, you can go to his bank and have it taken right out of his account for a minimal fee.

seriously, if you gave a general contractor a rubber check for his services he would come back and yank out all of the materials he used in the project.

It's only a felony if the party knowingly wrote the cheque without funds available to cover it (i.e. fraud). If it were accidental, I don't belieive it is a felony.

burn that fucker at the stake. but seriously, how do you not know that you wrote a bad $2500 check? most banks will cover x amount of overdraft, so whoever wrote that check must already be like $1000 in the hole on his account or something.
