Hey, here's an idea - all you non-liberals here or whatever you want to call yourselves, instead of calling us out or pointing us to books with snazzy zinger titles, how about you tell us your ideas? What makes you "conservative" or whatever, why you feel that way and what policies you support? Cause I never really hear too much from you guys what your about you know, what you care about..just here wise cracking jokes about silly liberals..
How about that? Is that worth a shot..maybe a little peace love and understanding you know..

I can't undertand why anyone would be a conservative. Actually I can. People like familiarity. The very concept of conservatism is to 'conserve' ie keep things the same.
The very idea that a political party would not want to change as the world changes around them worries me slightly. As the Buddah said:
"Nothing remains without change."

i had you pegged as a closet conservative baskerville!
and then you quote buddha.
happy to be corrected!
- Baskerville0
yeah thanks vespa.
I may be named after a seriffed typeface but I'm certainly no conservative.
I'm now slightly worried that I give off that impression.
Hmm, maybe that's just my geekiness.
- vespa0
don't worry about nuffink.
as buddha once said "who gives a monkeys what other people think about you anyway?"
- vespa0
hmm just reading over my post it does actually sound quite insulting!
sorry d00d

I would call myself a liberal, but definitely not a leftist. I guess that makes me a classical liberal.
Left-wing politics are about taking responsibility for people who should be responsible for themselves. I don't want that, because in effect they're taking away liberties.
Yes, it is a bit odd, that those are the Conservatives that usually call for personal and economic freedom.Interesting thing, Libertarians usually team up with Conservatives, ie I guess there would be a different president in the US now if it weren't for libertarian support.

(Feb 13 07, 03:50)Really? Most libertarians I know detest Bush..they despise this administrations attack on the Constitution, corporate welfare at the expense of small business and the free market and dragging the US into foreign wars...
Despite the antiwar nomiker every writer there is either a old school libertarian or a paleoconservative (Pat Buchanan writes for them..) and they all hate Bush..

Many people, despite their political affiliations, want Bush out.
- mrdobolina0
the conservative movement is so fragmented in the US right now.
- lemmys_wart0
the founding fathers were wild liberal, just fyi.
- grunttt0
my results from jaline's quiz way up there ^
You Are a Liberal for Life
You've got a bleeding heart - and you're proud of it.
For you, liberal means being compassionate, pro-government, and anti-business.
You believe in equality for every person, and you consider yourself universally empathetic.
Helping others is not just political for you ... it's very personal too.

conservatives tend to be either stupid or morally defective

" I can't undertand why anyone would be a conservative. Actually I can. People like familiarity. The very concept of conservatism is to 'conserve' ie keep things the same "
^ despite what rush limbaugh would have you believe that's the jist of it.
...and by that definition, the democratic party has many, many conservatives in it.
that is, people who mindlessly observe old school "leftist" ideals.
is that a bad thing? maybe no, a hundered years ago... when the pace of change was slow.
shit moves so fast now, you have to be "liberal" to keep up.
- lemmys_wart0
saudi arabia is probably the most conservative society on earth...
holland probaly the most liberal....
which would you live in?
that's what i thought.

(Feb 13 07, 03:55)Who doesn't? They still voted him in, didn't they?
It is kind of ironic that Clinton was probably the best Republican president in years - limiting govt spendings and welfare :)
Allthough, he extensively used airforce one for campaigning (circa $1.5m per take off) and in the end, as I remember, increased military budget..
