my powerbook has been acting weird...when i restart now, i dont see the gray screen, i can see it's there, but it's like there's no backlight and it's all just black and you can baaarely see the apple and the little loader/spinner thing.
and my finder keeps freezing...what gives? my HD crashed 1.5 yrs ago, i had that replaced. got a new logic board not too long ago too, maybe last summer.

sorry i was looking, but i couldn't find anything with those symptoms.
is your screen always dim, even after startup? and your finder freezes?you could look at apple support forums.
maybe that will help.

maybe?
http://discussions.apple.com/thr…maybe the finder crash is a coincidence.

the back light turns on right when it goes to that blue background with the login screen and all that.
so basically, when the screen is supposed to be all gray with the little apple and loady thing, i cant see it unless i look at the screen at a weird angle and shit. but then when it goes to the blue background, backlight turns on and all is well.

I've had that happen once and it was the backlight key (I forget what it's actually called... the 2 keys next to the "esc" button... [F1 & F2]) turned off completely.
Doubt that's what your problem is but thought I'd let you know... it freaked me out when it first happened to me...

guess I'm too slow :)

hehe, yeah i thought it was that too, until pushing it multiple times returns no results.

You have done the usual first aid: verified and repaired disk permissions, etc.?
maybe run onyx, macjanitor or something like it?
disk warrior?
